General Duties

Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Nursing, plan, organize, staff, direct and manage the acute care services of Oakwood Center, including Glades Services, Inpatient Units and Emergency Services (EMS) for psychiatric and substance abuse patients. Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, develop and implement, as approved by the Chief Medical Officer, the Annual Plan of Operations (APO) for the Inpatient Units/EMS. Ensure mental health services conform to all internal/external requirements. Provide leadership and direction in the operation of Inpatient Units/EMS. Provide supervision of nursing and nursing support staff. Recruit, interview, and hire staff as approved by the Director of Nursing. Plan and conduct meetings with professional staff to communicate essential information and obtain staff input on quality of care issues. Plan and develop the work assignments and educational experiences of staff to maintain staff competence. Communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, subordinates, other co-workers and patients both orally and in writing to inform, instruct, or otherwise provide direction to staff. Develop and maintain positive relationships with external organizations such as area hospitals to assure appropriate access to Inpatient Units/EMS.. Establish, support, and provide harmonious relations within the immediate sphere of influence and with other center staff. Receive and process patient grievances. Investigate and develop proactive action plans for specific adverse incidents. Assure patient records adhere to established standards. Maintain unit policies and procedures. Review, approve and monitor staff work schedules. Coordinate an effective program for the surveillance, prevention and control of infection. Participate in and implement quality control and quality improvement activities, including collection, monitoring, analysis and reporting of performance indicator data. Provide supervision and oversight of the self-administration of medication in non-acute care programs such as Synergy and New Focus. Provide supervision and some oversight to Inpatient Services with the Director of Nursing, and develop and implement policies and procedures to meet the standards/requirements of regulating agencies such as Medicare, JCAHO, Department of Children & Families, etc. Ensure that staff receive competency-based orientation and training and maintain required competencies.. 

Job Requirements

Education:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing.

Experience:
5-7 years in a behavioral health setting with 2 years administrative/supervisory experience.

Licensure / Certification:
Active Florida Registered Nurse License

Complexity of Duties:
Requires planning and coordination to supervise the development of schedules that accommodate staff and meet the care needs of the unit. Knowledge and experience is applied in the recognition of the signs and symptoms associated with various mental health and substance abuse behaviors and judgment in implementing the appropriate intervention. Initiative is used to develop and implement proactive continuous quality improvement initiatives. Interpersonal skills are applied to establishing and maintaining effective professional relationships. Judgment is used to establish and maintain professional and ethical boundaries
